Creating thread dumps can be useful. For example, you can use a thread dump to examine problems with servers that appear to be unresponsive, or to investigate why the server is taking an unusual amount of time to respond.
About this task
To help troubleshoot such cases,
Spotfire Support can examine a dump of thread activity to help determine what is happening. When the
Spotfire Server is running as a Windows service, it can be complicated to create this thread dump. This topic describes a simple way to create a thread dump.
Before you begin
You must
have administrative credentials for Spotfire Server.
Procedure
-
Log in to
Spotfire Server and then click
Monitoring & Diagnostics.
-
Select the
Spotfire Server for which you want to download the dump.
-
Click the
More button (...), and from the resulting drop-down list, click
Download thread dump.
The thread dump is written to a text file and downloaded to the computer.
-
In the server file system where the
Spotfire Server is installed, browse to the directory where the text file was written.
The text file name follows the convention
threadDump-<guid>.txt.
Results
You can open the text file and review the results, and you can share the thread dump with
Spotfire Support.
