License models
This article covers information about the license models under which Spotfire is commercially licensed.
- Count license features and named-user licenses
You can generate a report file for license features or named-user licenses that are set on the server using command-line commands. - Determine license counts for client applications
You can calculate the number of named users assigned to different product licenses. Use the following guidelines. - Named user licensing (Old license model)
The named-user license model works closely with feature licensing. This topic covers this relationship, and how you can understand it to make best use of your named-user licenses. - Capacity licensing (Old license model)
Capacity licensing is driven by the count of processors. - Legacy licensing (Old license model)
Legacy licensing is determined by instances (server or services) or by GB RAM (Web Player) used.
Current license model
In the current license model, Spotfire is commercially licensed with the new product licenses (such as Spotfire® Enterprise, Spotfire® Data Science, and Spotfire® Analytics).
For details about the current license model, see Spotfire license information.
Old license models
You might be on a contract with an older license model, with the old product licenses (such as Spotfire® Analyst, Spotfire® Business Author, Spotfire® Consumer). The following sections describes these license models.
Product license model | Description |
---|---|
Named-user | Identified users. Applies to Spotfire product licenses which include the right to use a certain set of license features. |
Capacity | The environment's capacity, such as the number of processors. |
Legacy | Named users plus the number of instances. |
Named-user license model
Named users are identified by the Spotfire administrator and granted licenses appropriate for their roles in the organization. This license model is used when you know the users but not the system's capacity needed to support them.
Spotfire products that always use the named-user model:
- Spotfire Analyst
- Spotfire Business Author
Spotfire products that can use either the named-user model or the capacity model:
- Spotfire Automation Services
- Spotfire Consumer
- Spotfire Server (including the data function services: Spotfire® Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition (a/k/a the TERR™ service), the Spotfire Service for R, and the Spotfire Service for Python)
- Spotfire Statistics Services
- Advanced Data Services (See TIBCO® Data Virtualization, now sold under a separate license; used with Spotfire only as the destination of data.)
Named user licenses work closely with license features. For more information about this relationship, see Named user licensing (Old license model).
Capacity license model
The environment's capacity (for example, the number of processors that the services run on) or number of instances determines the number of users that can use a product or the system concurrently. Individual names are not required. For more information about calculating capacity for compliance under this model, see Capacity licensing (Old license model).
Spotfire products that can use the capacity model:
- Spotfire Automation Services
- Spotfire Consumer1
- Spotfire Server (including the Spotfire® Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition (a/k/a the TERR™ service), Spotfire Service for R, and Spotfire Service for Python)
- Spotfire Statistics Services
- Spotfire Advanced Data Services (See TIBCO® Data Virtualization, now sold under a separate license; used with Spotfire only as the destination of data.)
Legacy license model
This historic model combines named users and the number of server instances. For more information about calculating instances for compliance under this model, see Legacy licensing (Old license model).
