Sizing guidelines for a Spotfire Server environment
There are many ways to size a Spotfire deployment. You can change and optimize your sizing depending on your specific needs. For example, the sizing depends on which services you use, the number and size of analyses, the type, frequency and complexity of data function calculations, the amount of data, the number of users, the network throughput, and so on.
The Spotfire platform is composed of several specialized services. You can deploy multiple instances of each Spotfire service on each node, and you can size each of the Spotfire nodes separately.
On top of that, you can enable automatic scaling using the Cloud Deployment Kit for Spotfire or other external tools, based on default or custom metrics.
If you have no previous resource usage data or estimations, a common approach is to start with the minimum recommended hardware System Requirements, and then add more capacity as needed.
The topics in this section provide general guidelines and conditions to consider for scaling the Spotfire environment.
- Sizing considerations for Spotfire Server
The Spotfire Server contains a central application server which is made up of all the installed Spotfire servers working in a cluster. The server also includes the internal services Library Services, User Services, Audit Services Deployment Services and Information Services. - Sizing considerations for Spotfire Web Player
The Spotfire Web Player is a service connected to the Spotfire Server to provide the ability to run or create Spotfire analyses in a web browser. The Web Player service typically runs on a separate bare metal server, virtual machine or container. - Sizing considerations for Spotfire Automation Services
Spotfire Automation Services is a web service for automatically executing multi-step jobs within your Spotfire environment. - Sizing considerations for Spotfire Statistics Services
Spotfire Statistics Services contains three services that can connect to your Spotfire Server to run complex statistical analyses using data functions.
