Spotfire Server and Environment - Quick Start

Spotfire Advanced Analytics license

The Advanced Analytics license controls access to additional analytic features such as custom expressions, the box plot visualization, various statistical features, and advanced aggregation methods. Most users of Spotfire Analyst will need this license as well as the Spotfire Analyst license.

Note: Most of the features within this license are applicable only to Analysts using the installed client, but the Advanced Aggregation Methods, Custom Expressions, Execute Data Functions, f(x) Flyout, and Pin Data Function license features are also relevant for Business Authors using the web client.
Feature Provides permission to
Advanced Aggregation Methods Access more aggregation methods, in addition to the standard Sum, Average, Count, and Unique Count.
Create Box Plot Create a new box plot visualization.
Curve Draw Add a curve to a visualization by entering an expression for the curve.
Curve From Data Table Add a curve to a visualization by importing it from a data table.
Custom Expressions Access the Custom expression option on the column selectors.
Data Relationships Access the Data Relationships tool.
Execute Data Functions Users of the installed client can run, edit and remove data functions and expression functions. Specifically, Analyst users can:
  • Run any existing data functions and add data function transformations to data tables, when applicable.
  • Edit existing scripts, including data function input and output parameters from the Data Function Properties dialog.
  • Specify whether to run data functions locally or on a server with Spotfire Statistics Services.
Note: For this Spotfire release, the Spotfire Statistics Services server is discontinued and will no longer be updated. You can continue to use it but no bug fixes or security patches will be provided, and it will eventually be removed.
  • Access and change settings for the type of data used by data functions.

If this license feature is not granted, data functions cannot be accessed from the f(x) flyout, and the Settings button for data tables based on data functions in the Data > Data Table Properties dialog is not available.

Even if users do not have this feature, however, existing analyses that contain predicted columns will continue to function and update based on the data as necessary. (That is, the underlying data functions continue to work.)
Note: If you do not enable this feature, you should not enable the Register Data Functions, Predictive Modeling, and Insert Predicted Columns features.

Business authors running the web client can execute predefined data functions saved in the library (by an analyst running the installed client) from the Files and data flyout or the f(x) flyout, if this feature has been enabled.

Exponential Curve Add an Exponential Curve to visualizations.
f(x) Flyout View the f(x) flyout. The f(x)  flyout is a handy way for Spotfire Analyst authors to easily reach their analytic tools, including native tools and custom data functions that can be pinned to the flyout.

Business Author users with the Execute Data Functions license feature can run data functions from the flyout in web clients. See also the Pin Data Functions licence feature.

Gaussian Curve Add a Gaussian Curve to visualizations.
Hierarchical Clustering Use hierarchical clustering.
Insert Predicted Column Use predictive models in analyses to add predicted columns to data tables.

Even if users do not have this feature, their existing analyses that contain predicted columns will continue to function and update based on the data as necessary. (That is, the underlying data functions continue to work.)

If this feature is enabled, you should also enable the Register Data Functions and Execute Data Functions features.

K-Means Clustering Access the K-Means Clustering tool.
Line Similarity Access the Line Similarity tool.
Logarithmic Curve Add a Logarithmic Curve to visualizations.
Logistic Regression Curve Add a Logistic Regression Curve to visualizations.
Pin Data Function Pin data functions from the library to the f(x) flyout. See also the f(x) Flyout license feature.
Polynomial Curve Add a Polynomial Curve to visualizations.
Power Curve Add a Power Curve to visualizations.
Predictive Modeling Create, edit, and manage Regression and Classification Models.

Even if users do not have this feature, however, their existing analyses that contain results from the predictive modeling tools will continue to function and update based on the data as necessary. (That is, the underlying data functions continue to work.)

If this feature is enabled, you should also enable the Register Data Functions and Execute Data Functions features.

Register Data Functions Create, edit, import, and export data functions and expression functions that are in the Spotfire library. Specifically, users can:
  • Register new data functions.
  • Edit existing scripts, including data function input and output parameters.
  • Refresh data functions and expression functions.
  • Delete data functions and expression functions from the library (if they are not embedded in an analysis).
  • Synchronize data functions.

If this license feature is not granted, the Tools > Register Data Function and the Data > Data Function Properties menu items are not available in the Analyst client. Without this feature, users cannot create, edit, or delete data functions or expression functions.

Even if users do not have this feature, however, their existing analyses that contain predicted columns will continue to function and update based on the data as necessary. (That is, the underlying data functions continue to work.)
Note: This feature should be granted in conjunction with the Execute Data Functions feature, so that users can test (execute) as well as register data functions and expression functions. If you do not enable this feature, you should not enable the Predictive Modeling and Insert Predicted Columns features.
Set Column From Marked Access the Column from Marked option on the column selectors.
Straight Line Add a Straight Line Fit to visualizations.
