Labels: Main View

Right-click a folder in the tree view and select New Label to display these options in the properties page.

In Statistica Enterprise, labels are used by Data Entry Setups to store:

  • supplementary information that will be associated with SPC data,
  • the values from which users will select when prompted for causes and actions, and
  • the possible defects for attribute data entry.

Users with Data Entry Administrator (EDE) or System Administrator (SADM) permissions can access the Label options from Statistica Enterprise Manager.

Supplementary information is defined as data that are related to the measurements collected but are not used for SPC analyses. For example, each circuit board that a company manufactures may be labeled with a unique serial number. This serial number is a piece of supplementary information that can be collected and associated with the stored measurements taken on each circuit board. Later, for analytic purposes, the manufacturer can use Statistica Enterprise Manager to filter by serial number and focus its attention on a specific range of circuit boards.

Supplementary information in Statistica Enterprise Manager is stored as a label. A piece of supplementary information can be associated with each object measured (a Piece label) or each sample collected (a Sample label). An example of a Piece label is the above-mentioned circuit board serial number. A lot number that a sample of measurements share is an example of a typical Sample label.

To begin defining the supplementary information to be collected, right-click on the Labels node in the tree view and select New Label (or select an already-existing label) to display the Labels options in the properties view.

Name. Enter or edit the name for the Label in the Name box.

Label Type. Select the option button adjacent to the type of label you are defining.

Sample
A Sample label holds supplementary information that is related to the data for each sample collected. Recording the lot number from which a sample is drawn is an example of the use of a Sample label.
Piece
A Piece label holds supplementary information that is related to the data for each individual object or piece. Recording the serial number for each object is an example of the use of a Piece label.
Defect
A Defect label holds the possible defects on inspected objects when attribute data are collected.
Action
When monitoring an aspect of the production process, it is often useful to have an operator enter a corrective action that was taken when an event occurred (e.g., an out-of-control sample or runs rule violation). An Action label stores the actions that were entered.
Cause
When monitoring an aspect of the production process, it is often useful to have an operator enter a cause when an event occurs (e.g., an out-of-control sample or runs rule violation). A Cause label stores the cause that was entered to explain the event.
List Type
Select the option button adjacent to the type of list you are defining.
General
When the General option button is selected, you can enter any value.
Dynamic
When the Dynamic option button is selected, a list of label values will be provided from which you can select. If none of the potential values are applicable, you have the option to expand the list with a new value.
Static
When the Static option button is selected, a list of values will be provided from which you must choose, i.e., you cannot enter a new value.
List of values
Use the options in this group box to enter either a Dynamic list of values or a Static list of values.

New. Click the New button to display the Enter a value dialog box, where the value name is entered.

Rename. Select a value in the list, and click the Rename button to display the Enter a Value dialog box, where the value name can be modified.

Remove. Select a value in the list, and click the Remove button to remove that value.

Remove all. All values for a label can be cleared by clicking the Remove all button.

Import. Click the Import button to select a text file containing potential values for the current label. This option is useful if the label has many potential values. If those values already exist in a format that can be exported to a text file, the values can be imported from that text file into the Statistica Enterprise database.

Copy. Click the Copy button to copy existing values from other labels into the current label. The Add Values dialog box will be displayed.
