Workspace Node: MARSplines - Specifications - Quick Tab

The MARSplines workspace node can be accessed from the Feature Finder, the ribbon bar, or the Node Browser. The Specifications - Quick tab is displayed by default when you open the specifications dialog box.

This tab contains options to select types of variables for the analysis. If you select the dependent variables as categorical, MARSplines treats the problem as a classification task; otherwise it is regression. You can also exclude certain data cases of your choice using the Response codes and Predictor codes buttons (see below). Refer also to the Introductory Overview and Technical Notes.

Element Name Description
Use previous input description Select this check box to use the variable selection specified in the Select dependent variables and predictors node, accessed via the ribbon bar or by double-clicking the data source node in the workspace. Note that the previous Select Cases and Weight specifications will be used also. If case selection conditions and/or weights were previously specified, you can view those specifications from this workspace dialog box, but you cannot change them (the options will be dimmed).
Variables Click the Variables button to display a standard variable selection dialog box. Select one or more continuous or categorical dependent variables, and a list of predictor variables. If you select the dependent variables as categorical, MARSplines will treat the problem as a classification task; otherwise it is regression. Because of the nature of MARSplines models, you can specify continuous and/or categorical predictor variables for the analysis. A single analysis will be performed for all variables, fitting common basis functions with different coefficients for each dependent variable.
Response codes Click this button to display the Select Dependent Code dialog box, which contains options to specify the codes identifying the levels for the dependent variable. Codes must be integer values or text labels (and can be dates, times, etc.); at least two codes must be specified for the categorical dependent variable.
Predictor codes Click this button to display the Select Codes for Independent Variables dialog box, which contains options to specify the codes identifying the levels for the predictor (independent) variables. Codes must be integer values or text labels (and can be dates, times, etc.); at least two codes must be specified for the categorical independent variables.

Options / C / W. See Common Options.

OK Click the OK button to accept all the specifications made in the dialog box and to close it. The analysis results will be placed in the Reporting Documents node after running (updating) the project.
