Define Actions Resulting From

Click the Define automatic action button on the Alarm tab of the Attribute Charts Options dialog box to display the Define actions resulting from dialog box. In this dialog box, you can specify the types of actions that Statistica should take when the respective alarm occurs. You can request an automatic input of cause or corrective action or the creation of the chart (if it does not currently exist). You can also choose to run up to three Statistica Visual Basic programs and/or to launch up to three separate applications.

Define actions resulting from out-of-control events

• Automatically request input of cause/action

  When either of these check boxes is selected, Statistica will automatically display the Assigning a Cause (Action) dialog box. This dialog box enables the operator to pick from a list of predefined causes (actions) or to specify a new cause (action). Note that if the variables with codes for causes and/or actions have not already been specified, you will be prompted to choose those variables before the Assigning a Cause (Action) dialog is displayed. • Automatically create the chart (if it currently does not exist)

  When this check box is selected, Statistica will automatically display the default graph ( X-bar and R chart) when the respective out-of-control condition (alarm) occurs. If a chart is currently displayed on the screen, the setting of this check box will have no effect. This option is useful for monitoring several processes simultaneously. After setting up the respective Alarm notification for each chart, you can minimize each project and delete all graphs. Then, when an out-of-control condition occurs, the respective graphs (where the selected out-of-control conditions occur) will be displayed on the screen (be sure to clear the Auto hide option on the Real-time tab of the Quality Control Charts Startup Panel so that the charts for all projects will be displayed simultaneously on the screen).

• Run SVB programs; program names/location

  When this check box is selected, you can specify up to three different Statistica Visual Basic (SVB) programs to run automatically whenever the respective out-of-control event occurs. To specify the path (for the program file name) of the SVB program, click the first available number button (1, 2 or 3). This will display a standard Open file dialog where you can choose which SVB program to launch.

• Run/launch other application (with optional parameters)

  When this check box is selected, you can specify up to three different applications to run automatically whenever the respective out-of-control event occurs. To specify the (file name) path of the application, click the first available number button (1, 2, or 3). This will display the Specify program (command line) and optional parameters dialog box. External applications can be launched with optional parameters. For example, you may want to launch an e-mail program and send a particular (saved) email message.
