Options - Stats Tab

Control Charts for Variables vs. Charts for Attributes

Select the Stats tab of the Options dialog box to access the options described here.

Relative size of margin

Select this check box to display the specified statistics and capability indices as custom text in the left margin of the graph.

Relative size of graph

You can also specify (in percentages) the size of the margin containing the text box relative to the graph size.  When you specify a small percentage, then a small (blank) margin will be created to the left of the charts in the graph. The statistics custom text will be inserted here.

Include (display) capability indices in graph

Select which capability indices to include in the text box shown in the left margin of the graph. You can choose to display nominal (target) values, upper and lower specification limits, number or percent of observations outside of specification limits, and a variety of capability and performance indices.

Include (display) statistics in graph

Select which statistics to include in the statistics text box, which is displayed in the left margin of the graph.

Observations

The statistics in this box are based on the individual observations. For variable charts, moving average charts, and x charts, you can display N, mean, standard deviation, standard error for the mean, skewness and kurtosis. For attribute charts, you can display average N, mean and sigma.

Samples (computed)

These statistics are computed from the samples. If Identify sets of samples in the chart is selected on the Options Layout tab, the statistics will be reported for the last set shown in the chart. Note that values computed from the samples will be different than values taken from the Specs tab. For more details, see Computation Details.

For variable control charts, you can choose to display the average N, mean, average R or S, sigma for the process and sigma for the means.

For moving average charts, you can choose to display the average N, mean, average MR or MS, sigma for the process and sigma for the moving averages.

For X and moving range charts, you can choose to display the Mean, average R (MR, S) and sigma for the process.

Samples (specs)

These statistics are taken from the specifications defined in the Specs tab of the respective results dialog. If Identify sets of samples in the chart is selected on the Options Layout tab, the statistics will be reported for the last set shown in the chart. To display the summary statistics for all sets, use the option Summary specifications for all sets on the Sets tab of the respective results dialog box.

For variable control charts, you may choose to display the center value for the X-bar chart, the center value for the R or S chart, sigma for the process, sigma for the means, control limits for X and control limits for R or S.

For attribute charts, you can display the center line value, sigma and the control limits.

For moving average charts, you can display the center line value for the moving average, moving range and moving standard deviation charts, the process sigma and the sigma for the means, and control limits for the MA chart and the MR or MS chart.

For X and Moving Range charts, you can display the center line value for the x chart and moving range chart, the process sigma, and control limits for the X chart and the Moving Range chart.
