Canonical Analysis - Canonical Scores Tab

Select the Canonical scores tab of the Canonical Analysis dialog box to access the options described here. Use these options to review spreadsheets and graphs related to the canonical scores. Canonical variate spreadsheets and graphs are unlimited/user-limited as defined by the Max. number of cases in a single results spreadsheet box on the Discriminant Function Analysis Results dialog box - Classification tab, unless otherwise noted.

Canonical scores for each case
Click the Canonical scores for each case button to produce a spreadsheet in which you can review the discriminant function scores for each case.
Histogram of canonical scores
Use the options in the Histogram of canonical scores group box to produce histograms of the canonical scores.
By group
Click the By group button to produce a histogram of the frequency distribution of the canonical scores for a selected group. When you click this button, the Select Group for Histogram dialog box will be displayed, which is used to select the group to be plotted.
All groups combined
Click the All groups combined button to produce a histogram of the frequency distribution of the canonical scores for all groups combined.
Plot histogram for root number
Enter the canonical root for which to produce the histogram in the Plot histogram for root number box.
Scatterplot of canonical scores
Click this button to produce a scatterplot of the canonical scores for pairs of discriminant functions (canonical roots). This plot is very useful for determining how each discriminant function contributes to the discrimination between groups. Note that this option is not available if only one canonical (discriminant) function was extracted.

The max number of cases in this scatterplot is 32,000.  If you have more than 32,000 cases, it is recommended that you save the data via the Save canonical scores button, and then produce this graph using the general categorized scatterplot options (by selecting Scatterplots on the Graphs - Categorized Graphs tab or menu).

Save canonical scores
Click the Save canonical scores button to display a standard variable selection dialog box, where you can choose which variables (if any) you want to display along with the canonical scores. Note that the variable(s) and the canonical scores will then be displayed in an individual window (regardless of the settings in the Options dialog box - Output Manager tab or the Analysis/Graph Output Manager dialog box). You can, however, add the spreadsheet to a workbook or report using the or buttons, respectively. Note that in order to save the spreadsheet, you must select the spreadsheet and select Save or Save As from the File menu. You can then use this spreadsheet to perform additional analyses.
