Variance Components and Mixed Model ANOVA Startup Panel - Advanced Tab

Select the Advanced tab of the Variance Components and Mixed Model ANOVA Startup Panel to access options to specify the variables for the analysis and the coding and sorting of the levels of the independent variables.

Variables

Click the Variables button to display the standard variable selection dialog box, in which the variables for the analysis can be specified. From the first list, select the dependent variable(s) for the analysis. Note that subsets of the selected dependent variables can later be specified for analysis on the Variance Components and Mixed Model ANOVA/ANCOVA Results dialog box, so you can select a larger set of dependent variables here. From the second list, select any factors for random effects in the analysis. From the third list, select any factors for fixed effects in the analysis. From the fourth list, select any covariates to be included in the analysis.

Note: missing data. If multiple dependent variables are selected for the analysis, then STATISTICA will apply casewise deletion of missing data, that is, cases or runs will be deleted from the analysis if there are missing data for any of the dependent variables specified for the analysis. Thus, be careful when there are missing data present in your dependent variables; the results for those variables without missing data may not be based on all available information (namely, those runs where some other dependent variable had missing data were dropped from the analysis).

Codes and levels for factors

The options in the Codes and levels for factors group box are used to specify the codes and/or levels of the factors for cases to be included in the analysis.

Codes for factors

Click this button to display the Select Codes for Factors dialog box, which is used to select the group codes for the factors selected to be included in the analysis. The currently selected codes for each factor included in the analysis will be displayed in the corresponding edit fields. These codes can be edited to change the specification of groups to be included in the analysis. Note that groups with consecutive codes can be specified by entering a dash between the beginning and ending codes to be selected. Note that this option is available only when the Select all codes found for the factors (variables) check box is not selected.

Selects all codes found for the factors (variables)

Select the Select all codes found for the factors (variables) check box to specify that all codes for variables specified as Random factors or Fixed factors in the Variables selection dialog (see above) will be used to form the groups in the analysis. When this check box is selected, the Codes for factors button is not available.

Note: if you select the Select all codes found for the factors (variables) check box, you can still exclude cases and/or groups from the analysis by using the Select Cases option. The Select all codes found for the factors (variables) option is the default method for selecting codes.

Sorting of codes

The options in the Sorting of codes group box are used to determine the order in which the data and the results are processed and displayed for the groups defined by the factor codes. The factor codes will be sorted in ascending numerical order if the Sort codes in ascending order option button is selected. (This is the default mode.) The factor codes will be sorted in descending numerical order if the Sort codes in descending order option button is selected. Finally, if the Do not sort codes option button is set, results will displayed for the groups defined by the factor codes in the order in which the corresponding codes are first encountered in the data file.
