This sample demonstrates the use of the Database Change Data Capture Input Adapter for Oracle and SQL Server databases.
-
Scripts are provided for Windows to configure your database for change data capture. If using SQL Server, modify
setup-cdc-sql-server.sql
with your site-specific database credentials. Runsetup-cdc-oracle.sql
orsetup-cdc-sql-server.sql
to configure CDC for your Oracle or SQL Server database, respectively. In addition to configuring change data capture, these scripts above create a database table,Customers
, for which change activity is captured. -
Add the JAR file containing the JDBC driver for your database —
ojdbc6.jar
orsqljdbc4.jar
— to your Maven repository and or add the dependency to the project's pom file.
In StreamBase Studio, import this sample with the following steps:
-
From the top-level menu, click
> . -
Enter to
change
narrow the list of options. -
Select Database Change Data Capture input adapter sample from the Native Database Connectivity Adapters category.
-
Click
.
StreamBase Studio creates a project for the sample.
-
In the Project Explorer view, open the sample you just loaded.
If you see red marks on a project folder, wait a moment for the project to load its features.
If the red marks do not resolve themselves after a minute, select the project, right-click, and select
> from the context menu. -
Open the
src/main/eventflow/
folder.packageName
-
Open the
change-data-capture-oracle.sbapp
orchange-data-capture-sql-server.sbapp
file to open the sample application for Oracle or SQL Server, respectively. -
Select the adapter icon to open the Properties view for the adapter.
-
Select the Adapter Settings tab and note that the populated values match those configured through the scripts above.
-
Click the Run button. This opens the SB Test/Debug perspective and the application.
-
In the Studio's Output Streams view, observe tuples emitted on the adapter's
Status
output port indicating it has connected to the database and enabled CDC. -
Using a tool such as sqldeveloper or SQLPlus for Oracle or SQL Server Management Studio or sqlcmd for SQL Server, modify the contents of the Customers table by inserting, updating, and deleting records. If using Oracle, commit the changes to ensure the redo log gets written promptly.
-
In Studio's Output Streams view, observe tuples emitted on the Capture output port indicating changes have been made to the
Customer
table. -
When done, press F9 or click the Terminate EventFlow Fragment button.
When you load the sample into StreamBase® Studio, Studio copies the sample project's files to your Studio workspace, which is normally part of your home directory, with full access rights.
Important
Load this sample in StreamBase® Studio, and thereafter use the Studio workspace copy of the sample to run and test it, even when running from the command prompt.
Using the workspace copy of the sample avoids permission problems. The default workspace location for this sample is:
studio-workspace
