You can add a data connection to Oracle Essbase to an analysis and select to analyze the data in-database.
Procedure
-
On the authoring bar, click
Files and data
.
-
In the Files and data flyout, click
Connect to.
-
In the list of connectors, click
Oracle Essbase.
-
In the Oracle Essbase flyout, click
New connection.
-
In the Oracle Essbase Connection dialog, specify the
Server you want to connect to.
-
Enter your credentials in the
Username and
Password text fields.
-
Click
Connect.
-
From the
Application drop-down list, select the application of interest.
-
Specify which database in the selected application you want to work with.
-
In the
Alias table drop-down list, select from which table the member names should be retrieved.
An alias table maps the original member name to a more user friendly name, or they could contain long or short versions of a name.
-
Optionally, select the check box
Show both the member name and the alias.
The member name and alias name will be shown in the user interface, separated by comma.
-
Click
OK.
-
In the left pane, click on the object of interest, and then click
Add >.
See
Icon Descriptions for information about what the different objects represent. If you select the cube icon, you will get all data in the cube. When it comes to hierarchies, you always have to add the entire hierarchy to the list, but you can limit the data further, see step 12.
The selected data is added to the
Data selection in connection list.
-
Dimension columns and hierarchies can be further limited by clicking on the selected column or hierarchy in the
Data selection in connection list and then, in the
Settings pane, clicking
Limit....
The
Limit Data dialog opens.
-
Clear the check boxes for categories that you want to remove from the selection.
-
Click
OK to close the
Limit Data dialog.
-
When you are done with the data selection, click
OK.
-
The final step is a summary view of the data tables that will be added to your Spotfire analysis. Make sure that the data table that is added from your connection is configured as
External, for in-database analysis.
Note: To change the load method of a data table to External, click the data table in the summary view, and then use the drop-down menus to select
External.
-
Click
OK.
Results
The external data table is added to your analysis.
Tip: Do all of the data selection work in a shared data connection and save it to the library instead of adding it to the analysis directly. This way you can reuse the work you have done later, or share your selections with others.
