Connector for Oracle Essbase

On this page, you find information about downloading and installing the drivers you need to be able connect to data sources with the connector for Oracle Essbase in Spotfire.

Preparations

Before downloading and installing any driver software for use with this connector, read the system requirements for the connector for your version of Spotfire. Make sure that your database version and driver version is supported in your version of Spotfire.

To use the Oracle Essbase connector, you must install the Essbase Client.

The driver is included in Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System, which is available for download from Oracle.

Downloading the Oracle Data Access Components driver

Prerequisites

To access the download, you must have an Oracle account, which you can create on the Oracle website.

In a web browser, go to the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud platform and download the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System - Client Installers.

Note: When you obtain third-party software or services, it is your responsibility to ensure you understand the license terms associated with such third-party software or services and comply with such terms.

Installation instructions

Unpack the .zip file that you downloaded from Oracle.
In the unpacked folder structure, locate and run the EssbaseClient.exe installer.
During the installation, make sure that you install both Essbase Client and Essbase Client C API.

Creating the required environment variables

For Spotfire to use the driver, you must configure four environment variables on your computer.

Note: For Web Player or Automation Services services, you must use system variables.

On your computer, add the following environment variables:
- EPMHOME
  Value: The home path for the Oracle Enterprise Management System.
  
  Example: C:\oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1
- ARBORPATH
  Value: The path that you specified during the installation of the Essbase Client.
  
  Example: %EPMHOME%\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient
- ESSBASEPATH
  Value: %ARBORPATH%
- PATH
  Add the following two paths to the PATH variable (or create the variable it if it doesn't already exist on your computer):
  
  Example: C:\oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1
  
  %ARBORPATH%\bin
  
  %EPMHOME%\bin
