Legacy licensing
Legacy licensing is determined by instances (server or services) or by GB RAM (Web Player) used.
This section is provided for historic purposes, and for those few customers who maintain legacy licensing. Licensing of this type is no longer offered.
Determine license numbers by instance
An instance is the smallest functionally-complete copy of the software. If multiple copies of the software are installed on the same computer or behind a load balancer, each copy still counts as an instance. For example, if you have two node managers with two instances of Automation Services for each node, this is equal to four instances of Automation Services.
- To get the number of
Spotfire Server instances, from the command line, run the
list-nodes
command. The number of Spotfire Server instances is equal to the number of server nodes that are returned when you run this command. - To get the number of
Spotfire Automation Services instances, from the command line, run the
list-services
command. The number of Spotfire Automation Services instances is equal to the number of service instances that are returned when you run this command. - To get the number of
Spotfire Statistics Services instances, from the command line, run the
list-services
command. The number of Spotfire Statistics Services instances is equal to the number of installed copies of the Spotfire Statistics Services Server + the number of Spotfire® Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition (a/k/a the TERR™ service) instances returned when you run this command.
The
list-services
command generates a list of all server
nodes. That total is equal to the number of server instances in use for the
purpose of licensing.
list-services
command also lists all services attached
to remote nodes in the Spotfire environment. That total is used to determine
the number of Automation Services instances, and to count the number of TERR
Instances.
Determine license numbers by RAM
list-services
command to find the computers on which
the Web Player nodes are installed.
The GB RAM calculation is based on the total number of gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) on the computers where the Spotfire Web Player is installed.
If the computer is a physical machine, then the amount of RAM is determined by the installed physical memory available according to the system information. If the computer is a virtual machine, then the amount of RAM is equivalent to the amount of RAM assigned to the virtual machine on which the Web Player is running.
