Spotfire licenses and license features
To determine what functionality users in your Spotfire environment should be able to access, you assign licenses to user groups. Each license includes the permission to use a certain set of features, and you can further tailor a group's access to functionality by switching on or off individual license features.
Licenses
A license in Spotfire assigns the right to use a certain set of capabilities and features in Spotfire, rather than the use of a specific "out-of-the-box" application. The licenses correlate to different user types; users with edit permissions who create Spotfire applications, users who explore data using Spotfire applications built by others, and users who can only open applications for viewing purposes.
- Setting the license and license features for a group
As an administrator, you assign licenses to groups so that members of that group, and members of that group's subgroups, have access to the features contained in the license. You can also switch on or off each individual license feature. - Viewing and managing licenses in your Spotfire environment
You can manage and get an overview of how you have assigned licenses in your Spotfire environment on the Spotfire Server administration pages. - License feature reference
You can manage a group's access to individual features in Spotfire by switching on or off license features. On this page, you can learn about all license features. - License inheritance in group hierarchies
Licenses determine the Spotfire features and functionality that are available to users. Licenses are set at the group level, so when you create groups, you should also set the licenses that apply to each group. - License models
This article covers information about the license models under which Spotfire is commercially licensed. - Deployment report
As outlined in the Spotfire license information, to ensure compliance with your subscription terms, you must provide metrics about your Spotfire environment at certain times. To facilitate this process, the required metrics are logged to the Spotfire database. You can download this data as a deployment report to provide to a Spotfire representative as requested.
New and legacy licenses
Commercially, Spotfire is licensed with product licenses. The licenses that you can assign to groups in Spotfire also correspond to certain commercial licenses or to certain type of roles.
Depending on your commercial agreement, you use either the new or the legacy product licenses. The difference is the license names, and also the types of users and capabilities that they correspond to. To accommodate for both scenarios, Spotfire includes the capability to show and manage licenses according to new or legacy licensing. This makes it easier to assign and manage licenses according to your commercial agreement. See Changing the product license version.
Below are high-level descriptions of the licenses. For details on which capabilities are included in the licenses, see License feature reference.
