Web Player CPU usage is very high for a long period of time
If the level of CPU usage is very high (above 80%), then the response times typically become longer for the end user, but the system still works.
Possible Cause
Determine whether the slowdown is caused by a single file that is using too much CPU, or by too many different files that are in use at the same time.
- Check the action log at the time of the high CPU usage. Look for
scheduled_updates
actions such asjob_execution
,job_load
, andanalysis_update
.For details about the logged actions, see scheduled_updates actions logged from Spotfire Server. For general information about reading action logs, see the Action log reference.
- If the number of files is low, check the Web Player analyses information to determine which file is consuming too much CPU. Look at metrics such as Average load time and Execution time. For more information, see Web Player analyses information - Overview.
Resolution
- If the high CPU usage is due to a single file, move the file to a "quarantine" resource pool so that it does not affect the rest of the system, and you can more easily monitor the file's resource usage. For instructions on creating resource pools, see Creating resource pools.
- If the high CPU usage is due to a large number of files and activity, scale up the number of CPUs or add more Web Player computers.
