Spotfire® Server and Environment - Installation and Administration

When to use Global Catalog with your LDAP configuration

If your Spotfire environment is in a multi-domain forest, consider configuring Spotfire Server LDAP settings to synchronize with a Global Catalog (GC) server in your domain. Synchronizing with a GC server fetches users and groups from the whole domain forest.

When you configure Spotfire LDAP integration in environments with multiple domains in the forest, then configure Spotfire Server to use the Global Catalog to return objects from all domains in the forest. To do this, specify the port 3268 (LDAP) or port 3269 (LDAPS). LDAP requests sent to port 3268 or 3269 can be used to search for objects in the entire forest. However, only the attributes marked for replication to the Global Catalog can be returned.

If you only need to sync users and groups from a single domain, then configure Spotfire Server to search for objects from a local domain controller only. To do this, specify the port 389 (LDAP) or port 636 (LDAPS).

Contact your domain administrator for more information about whether you should use GC or the local domain controller in your LDAP sync settings.

For more information about the Global Catalog, see its Microsoft legacy documentation.
