Spotfire Server and Environment - Quick Start

Determine license counts for client applications

You can calculate the number of named users assigned to different product licenses. Use the following guidelines.

  • The number of Spotfire Analyst named users is equal to the number of unique users in all groups with one or more license features from the Spotfire Analyst (Spotfire.Dxp.Professional) license group switched on.
  • The number of Spotfire Business Author named users is equal to the number of unique users in all groups with the Spotfire Business Author (Spotfire.Dxp.WebAnalyzer) licenses, minus the number of Spotfire Analyst Named Users.
  • The number of Spotfire Consumer named users is equal to the number of unique users in all groups with the Spotfire Consumer (Spotfire.Dxp.WebPlayer) license or the Spotfire Enterprise Player (Spotfire.Dxp.EnterprisePlayer) license minus the number of Spotfire Business Author Named Users.
  • The number of Spotfire Network Analytics named users is equal to the number of unique users in all groups with both the Network Analytics license function and the Access to Extensions license function.
Note: A group can have users and other groups as members, and license features are inherited. This means that if a license feature is set for a group, then it is also set for the members of that group. A user or group can be a member of many different groups.

The effective license feature for a given user is the union of all license features set on the groups in which the user is a member, recursively from the bottom (that is, the root of the group hierarchy) up.

If any license features are enabled for the Everyone group, then that license feature applies to everyone who is in the Spotfire user directory. For example, if you have synchronized your entire organization's LDAP directory with Spotfire and enabled the Spotfire Analyst license features for the Everyone group, then everyone in your LDAP directory has access to Spotfire Analyst functionality and is counted as a named user.

Note: The number of assigned users you have is counted, not the number of users that actually use the product.

For the command-line command that returns named user licenses, see show-named-user-licenses. For a report that can be read into Spotfire, see show-licenses.
