Determine license counts for client applications
You can calculate the number of named users assigned to different product licenses. Use the following guidelines.
How are licenses counted
Technically, a named users product license is determined by what license features they have access to, and what product license the features require. For the full list of license features and which product license they require, see License feature reference.
- New product licenses
-
- The number of Spotfire Data Science named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Data Science product license.
- The number of Spotfire Analytics named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Analytics product license, minus the number of Spotfire Data Science named users.
- The number of Spotfire Analysis Consumer named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Analysis Consumer product license, minus the number of Spotfire Data Science and Spotfire Analytics named users.
- The number of Spotfire Analysis Viewer named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Analysis Viewer product license, minus the number of Spotfire Data Science, Spotfire Analytics, and Spotfire Analysis Consumer named users.
- Legacy product licenses
-
- The number of Spotfire Analyst named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Analyst product license.
- The number of Spotfire Business Author named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Business Author product license, minus the number of Spotfire Analyst named users.
- The number of Spotfire Consumer named users is equal to the unique users in all groups with one or more license features (or license feature groups) switched on that require the Spotfire Consumer product license, minus the number of Spotfire Analyst and Spotfire Business Author named users.
- The number of Spotfire Network Analytics named users is equal to the number of unique users in all groups with both the Network Analytics license function and the Access to Extensions license function.
The effective license feature for a given user is the union of all license features set on the groups in which the user is a member, recursively from the bottom (that is, the root of the group hierarchy) up.
If any license features are enabled for the Everyone group, then that license feature applies to everyone who is in the Spotfire user directory. For example, if you have synchronized your entire organization's LDAP directory with Spotfire and enabled the Spotfire Analyst license features for the Everyone group, then everyone in your LDAP directory has access to Spotfire Analyst functionality and is counted as a named user.
For the command-line command that returns named user licenses, see show-named-user-licenses. For a report that can be read into Spotfire, see show-licenses.
