Adding a New ActiveX Document to a Workbook

Options for adding ActiveX documents to a workbook are available from the Workbook menu and from the workbook tree shortcut menu. You can insert the document as a sibling or a child to another item within the workbook.

To add an ActiveX document as a child to another item within the workbook, follow these steps.

Procedure

  1. Determine an appropriate location in the workbook tree and right-click another item in that location. You can always move or copy the item to a new location later (using drag-and-drop features), so the exact location is not critical.
  2. Select Insert from the shortcut menu to display the Insert Workbook Item dialog. Under Item, select ActiveX Document Object, and under Placement select As first child; then click OK to display the Insert ActiveX Document Object dialog.
  3. Select the Create New option button, then select an appropriate file type to create from the Object Type box. Click OK, and the new file will be added to your workbook.

Result

Note: options to insert folders are also available from the Workbook menu; see Insert for more details. For information on adding other types of documents and files to workbooks, refer to Adding Items to a Workbook.
