Remote ibi WebFOCUS Reporting Server Setup At a Glance

Although the Server is typically installed on the same platform as the target data for ibi Data Migrator applications, there is no such restriction for source data. In fact, the WebFOCUS Reporting Server frequently resides on one platform while the source data resides on one or more platforms that are remote from the ibi Data Migrator Server itself. In these situations, you must configure the remote servers (also called subservers) to make the data accessible to the WebFOCUS Reporting Server for processing. .

First, complete the basic Server configuration steps described in Setup At a Glance. After completing these steps, you are ready to start the setup for one or more remote servers.

To set up the remote server, complete these steps:

  • Configure remote servers for data sources and create metadata.
  • Return to the WebFOCUS Reporting Server and configure it to access the remote servers so that you can use the data residing there.

The following steps describe this process:

  1. Install (if necessary) the remote server on the platform required by your site. (In many situations, the remote server may have already been installed.)
  2. Start the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface by selecting Information Buildersibi and then 90 DM Client91 DM Client92 DM Client from the Windows Start menu.Information Builders/WebFOCUS 82 ServerFor Windows servers, the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface can be found in Information Buildersibi/WebFOCUS 90 ServerWebFOCUS 91 ServerWebFOCUS 92 Server.
  3. Configure one or more nodes for the remote server in the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface configuration file.

This step identifies the name and port of the remote server you will be connecting to and adds the server name(s) to the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface server list. For more information, see Add a Node to Identify the ibi WebFOCUS Reporting Server to the ibi Data Migrator Desktop Interface

  4. Connect to and test the remote server from the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface. You can test that the Server is started and able to perform basic data retrieval (against sample data). See Test the ibi WebFOCUS Reporting Server. You can also test the Server from the Start page of the WebFOCUS Reporting Server browser interface.
  5. Configure and test the data adapter(s) for the data source(s) you will be using from the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface. The test verifies that the configuration was successful and you can access the data adapter.
  6. Create and test the metadata for the data source(s) you will be using from the ibi Data Migrator desktop interface. The test verifies data retrieval functionality for the specific data sources you are using. You can also create and test the metadata from the Managing Metadata page of the remote WebFOCUS Reporting Server browser interface.
Note: If you are using more than one data source for the same adapter, repeat Step 6 as many times as necessary before going to Step 7. If, however, you have data sources in a variety of adapters, repeat Step 5 and Step 6, then proceed to Step 7.
  7. Connect the WebFOCUS Reporting Server to the remote servers. Once you have installed and configured the remote servers, with their data sources, you must establish a connection from the WebFOCUS Reporting Server to the remote servers so that ibi Data Migrator will be able to access the data that resides on those servers. To do this, you return to the WebFOCUS Reporting Server browser interface Start page of the WebFOCUS Reporting Server and select Remote Servers from the navigation pane. To add the connection to the remote server(s), you click Add in the navigation pane.
  8. Create metadata to mirror the metadata on the remote server(s) from the WebFOCUS Reporting Server browser interface page. (Note that for remote servers, you create metadata from the Remote Servers page rather than from the Metadata page that you used for the WebFOCUS Reporting Server.)

This step makes the data on the remote server accessible to the WebFOCUS Reporting Server.
