Ribbon bar. Select the Statistics tab. In the Advanced/Multivariate group, click Advanced Models, and from the menu, select NIPALS to display the PCA/PLS Startup Panel.

Classic menus. On the Statistics - Advanced Linear/Nonlinear Models submenu, select NIPALS Algorithm (PCA/PLS) to display the PCA/PLS Startup Panel.

The Startup Panel contains one tab: Quick.

See also, MSPC Technical Notes and PCA and PLS Technical Details.

The Quick tab contains three options: Deployment, Principal component analysis (PCA), and Partial least squares (PLS).

Element Name Description
Deployment Select Deployment to display the Deployment Model dialog box to specify to load and deploy one or more existing models (in PMML format). Deployment of different model types is not supported. In other words, if you load multiple files, all deployed models must be the same type, e.g., PCA or PLS.
Principal component analysis (PCA) Select this option to run a new PCA analysis.
Partial least squares (PLS) Select this option to run a new PLS analysis (regression or classification). Classification-type problems are generally those where you attempt to predict values of a categorical dependent variable (class, group membership, etc.) from one or more continuous and/or categorical predictors. By contrast, regression-type problems are generally those where you attempt to predict the values of a continuous variable from one or more continuous and/or categorical predictor variables.
OK Click this button to display the respective dialog box for the analysis type you have selected. Note that you can also double-click on the desired analysis to display the analysis dialog box.
Cancel Click the Cancel button to close the PCA/PLS Startup Panel without performing an analysis.
Options See Options Menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.
Open Data Click the Open Data button to display the Select Data Source dialog box, which is used to choose the spreadsheet on which to perform the analysis. The Select Data Source dialog box contains a list of the spreadsheets that are currently active.
Select Cases Click the Select Cases button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Selection Conditions dialog box, which is used to create conditions for which cases will be included (or excluded) in the current analysis. More information is available in the case selection conditions overview, syntax summary, and dialog box description.
