Spotfire® Server and Environment - Installation and Administration

Capacity licensing

Capacity licensing is driven by the count of processors.

  • A "physical processor" means the smallest physical electronic circuit that is capable of reading and executing computer programs and providing results as output, such as a CPU (socket), core, or thread.
  • A "virtual processor" means a simulation of a Physical Processor that is serially time-multiplexed across one or more physical processors.

If the number of virtual processors of a virtual machine can increase or decrease, then for the purposes of counting virtual processors, the number of virtual processors shall be the maximum whole number of virtual processors that could ever be assigned to the virtual machine running the software. For more details see the Cloud Software Group Processor Licensing Policy.

If Spotfire Consumer is licensed by processor, then Spotfire Server, Spotfire Automation Services, and Spotfire Statistics Services must also be licensed by processor.

From a licensing point of view, there are no constraints on the number of processors licensed for each product. The number of processors for Spotfire Server, Spotfire Automation Services, Spotfire Statistics Services and Spotfire Consumer can all be different. Check the System Requirements to ensure that you have licensed the correct number of processors (cores) for each service.

When using capacity pricing such as "Instance" with Spotfire Statistical Services, one Instance per statistical engine is required. For example, if you want to use both R and MATLAB, you need two Instances of Spotfire Statistical Services.

Note: For this Spotfire release, the Spotfire Statistics Services server is discontinued and will no longer be updated. You can continue to use it but no bug fixes or security patches will be provided, and it will eventually be removed.
