Upgrading a Set of Affiliated Realm Servers

Upgrade each individual realm server, in this order:

1. Copy the data files from the primary realm server's data directory to a safe backup location.
2. Upgrade the primary server.
   When you stop the primary server, its clients fail over to the backup server. However, realm servers that straddle the divide between Releases 5.1 and 5.2 do not communicate. In this specific situation, the upgraded primary server does not display clients and services of the backup server until you stop the backup server, causing clients to fail over to the primary again.

   Similarly, a primary does not communicate with a satellit or a disaster recovery realm server if they straddle the divide. An upgraded primary realm server could output log messages warning that it cannot communicate with the satellite or disaster recovery realm server. You can safely ignore these warnings, which will abate after al affiliated realm servers have been upgraded.

3. Upgrade the primary’s backup server.
   When you stop the backup server, its clients fail over to the upgraded primary server.
4. Upgrade each satellite and then its backup.
   When you stop the satellite server, its clients fail over to the backup server. However, realm servers that straddle the divide between Releases 5.1 and 5.2 do not exchange client information. In this specific situation, the upgraded satellite server does not display clients and services of the backup server until you stop the backup server, causing clients to fail over to the satellite again.
5. Upgrade the disaster recovery server.
6. Upgrade the disaster recovery backup server.
7. Upgrade each satellite of the disaster recovery server and then its backup.
