Use the split operation to split node, category, or links into multiple for more granular classification or categorization. You can split the node at the same level or a level down the current node.
Prerequisites
Ensure that you have
linked records to the node that you want to split.
Ensure that you have submitted the previously generated hierarchy link approval work item.
Set the Hierarchy Edit Approval
business process rule if you want approval for splitting a node in the hierarchy by generating the work item.
Procedure
On the
Link Records page, from the
Nodes panel, select the node which you want to split.
Click More Actions
icon and select
Split.
The Split Nodes wizard is displayed with a list of steps.
In the
Step-1 Split Links section, by default, two nodes are displayed into which you can split the selected node. Perform the following actions:
Click the nodes to update or edit. A window is displayed with node details where you can update or remove nodes.
Add new nodes using the
+node link.
Click
Next.
In the
Step-2 Reassign Links section, the record links available for the selected node are displayed. The record links of the node being split are automatically moved to the first child node that was selected in the
Step-1 Split Links section.
Perform the following actions:
Select the record links and drag and drop them to the second node. The selected record links are removed from the first node and moved to the second node.
Repeat the first step to reassign record links to the third node.
Click
Next.
In the
Step-3 Review Links section, the existing node, new nodes (into which the existing node is split), and the number of records linked to the new nodes are displayed.
Based on your requirement, select one of the following options from the
Location drop-down list.
Replace Existing: Select this option for the
in-place split mode. The existing node is deleted and new nodes are created.
Append to Existing: Select this option for the
roll-down split mode. The existing node remains as a parent node and the new nodes are appended to the existing node.
Click
Next.
In the
Step-4 Submit section, add reasons for splitting nodes in the
Comments box. By default, the
Process through workflow check box is selected. The check box is displayed if you have the
Allow confirmation of hierarchy without workflowpermissions.
Click
Finish.
The hierarchy workflow is initiated for processing all changes done. The selected node is split based on your selection.
Result
If you have set the Hierarchy Edit Approval business process rule, the split hierarchy work item is created. For information, see
