Acquiring Locks on Work Item

Procedure

  1. Select the work item on Inbox screen.
  2. Click the Acquire Lock icon to lock a shared work item.

When a work item is locked by another user, a is displayed beside the work item in the Inbox. The hyperlink to access the work item, or records within the work item, is disabled.

When a work item is assigned to a user, a work item notification email is sent. This email contains the URL for the work item. If you access the work item using this URL, and if the work item has been locked by another user, the work item page is displayed with the following error message:

Work item is locked by <Parameter name='USER'> user. Expiration date is not configured.

The Submit button is not available.

    • If automatic locking is set, when the work item is opened, it will be locked. No explicit lock action is needed.
    • If the lock was already held, and the locking method is relative, when the work item is opened, the lock is renewed. The lock is not released when the user exits the work item using Cancel.

If the Default Work Item Lock Expiry Method property is set as Relative in the Configurator, to locate who has locked the work item, when it was locked, and when the lock expires, move the mouse cursor over the lock icon.

Locked work items can be reassigned. Reassignment of work items releases the lock on that work item.
