Clustering Method Startup Panel and Quick Tab

Ribbon bar. Select the Statistics tab. In the Advanced/Multivariate group, click, Mult/Exploratory and from the menu, select Cluster to display the Clustering Method Startup Panel.

Classic menus. To display the Clustering Method Startup panel, select Cluster Analysis from the Statistics - Multivariate Exploratory Techniques submenu.

The Startup panel contains one tab, Quick, which contains options to select the desired clustering method for the analysis. Refer to the Cluster Analysis Overviews for brief descriptions of the different clustering techniques.

Button Description
Joining (tree clustering)

To display the Cluster Analysis: Joining (Tree Clustering) dialog box, select Joining (tree clustering)

Use these options to create tree diagrams of clusters. See Joining for more detailed information on this method.

K-means clustering To display the Cluster Analysis: K-Means Clustering dialog box, select K-means clustering. Use these options to move objects around a user-specified number of clusters with the goal of minimizing within-cluster variability while maximizing between-cluster variability. See K-means clustering for more detailed information on this method.
Two-way joining To display the Cluster Analysis: Two-Way Joining dialog box, select Two-way joining. Use these options to simultaneously cluster cases and variables. See Two-way joining for more detailed information on this method.
OK To display the dialog box corresponding to the analysis method selected on the Quick tab, click the OK button
Cancel To close the Startup Panel without performing any analysis, click the Cancel button.
Options See Options menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.
Open Data To display the Select Data Source dialog box, which is used to choose the spreadsheet on which to perform the analysis, click the Open Data button. The Select Data Source dialog box contains a list of the spreadsheets that are currently active.
Select Cases To display the Analysis/Graph Case Selection Conditions dialog box, which is used to create conditions for which cases will be included (or excluded) in the current analysis, click the Select Cases button. More information is available in the case selection conditions overview, syntax summary, and dialog box description.
W

To display the Analysis/Graph Case Weights dialog box, which is used to adjust the contribution of individual cases to the outcome of the current analysis by "weighting" those cases in proportion to the values of a selected variable, click the W (Weight) button .
