ANOVA/MANOVA - Methods for Specifying Designs

Statistica General ANOVA/MANOVA [as well as General Linear Models (GLM), Generalized Linear/Nonlinear Models (GLZ), General Regression Models (GRM), General Partial Least Squares Models (PLS), and General Discriminant Analysis (GDA)] provides three alternate methods for specifying designs for the predictor variables or effects: via the Analysis Wizard and Quick Specs dialog boxes and the Analysis Syntax Editor. The Analysis Wizard and Analysis Syntax Editor user interfaces are only available when Repeated measures ANOVA is selected as the Type of analysis on the General ANOVA/MANOVA - Quick tab.

Note: even if you choose one of the first two user-interface methods, you can always switch to the MAN Analysis Syntax Editor, where the ANOVA/MANOVA syntax describing your current design (as specified via Analysis Wizards or Quick Specs dialog boxes) will be displayed for further editing; the MAN Analysis Syntax Editor also provides options for saving the design syntax in a text file for repeated use.

Analysis wizard. The simplest method for specifying designs is via the Analysis Wizard. If you select this Specification method from the General ANOVA/MANOVA - Quick tab, STATISTICA will guide you through a series of dialog boxes for specifying the desired type of design for the predictor variables (or effects). This user interface is only available when Repeated measures ANOVA is selected as the Type of analysis on the General ANOVA/MANOVA Startup Panel - Quick tab.

Quick specs dialog
This user-interface will present a Quick Specs dialog box, tailored to the specific Type of analysis selected on the General ANOVA/MANOVA - Quick tab. If you have some experience with using other Statistica modules, this user interface will appear most familiar to you.
Analysis syntax editor
Use this interface to type in directly the command syntax for specifying any type of regression or experimental design using the ANOVA/MANOVA syntax conventions in the MAN Analysis Syntax Editor. Note that the MANOVA syntax conventions are essentially identical to the GLM syntax conventions (see General Linear Models (GLM), with only a few omissions relating to the number of repeated measures factors, the number of categorical predictor factors, and the type of analysis. This user interface is only available when Repeated measures ANOVA is selected as the Type of analysis on the General ANOVA/MANOVA - Quick tab.
