General CHAID Analysis Syntax Editor

Select Analysis syntax editor in the General CHAID Models Startup Panel and click OK, or click the Syntax editor button in the General CHAID Models Quick specs dialog box to display the General CHAID Analysis Syntax Editor, which contains two tabs: Keywords and Specifications.

Use the editor to enter command syntax to completely specify the analysis design, as well as various parameters that are used in the computations.

Element Name Description
Analysis syntax Enter command syntax into the Analysis syntax edit field to completely specify the design, as well as various parameters that are used in the computations.

Note: Syntax for GCHAID analyses. The syntax for specifying the GCHAID analysis is similar in many ways to the syntax for specifying General Linear Models (see also the Analysis Syntax Editor - Keywords tab for details). In particular, in order to analyze ANOVA/ANCOVA-like coded designs, you can use the same command syntax as you would use for specifying a linear model. Thus, by using the command syntax it is very easy to move among different methods of analyzing data (e.g., General Linear Models, General Discriminant Analysis Models, Generalized Linear Models, General Classification and Regression Trees (GC&RT) Models, etc.), to evaluate the predictive power of the same variables (or design of the predictor effects) with different methods. The differences in the syntax pertain to the specifications of estimation options which will be different for different techniques. See GLM Syntax for details concerning how to specify designs.

OK (Run) Click the OK (Run) button to begin the computations and display the Results dialog box.
Cancel Click the Cancel button to close the editor and ignore any changes that you have made.
< Back Click the < Back button to move back to the previous dialog box.
Options Click the Options button to display the Options menu.
Open Click the Open button to display the standard Open Syntax dialog box, which is used to open previously saved text (program syntax) files.
Save As Click the Save As button to display the standard Save Syntax dialog box, which is used to save the current Analysis syntax to a text file. Those text files can be edited by practically all text editing and word processing programs.
Cut, Copy, Paste You can use the standard Cut, Copy, and Paste editing operations in the Analysis syntax edit field; these operations can be accessed by clicking on the respective buttons, or via the standard keyboard shortcuts. For details, refer to the description of the Edit menu.

Note: Using Quick specs dialogs to write the syntax. In practically all cases, the most efficient way to write CHAID syntax is to use the Quick specs dialog box, and then click the Syntax editor button in that dialog to "translate" the selected specifications to the command syntax. This can further be edited and updated as and when required.
