Single Proportion: Power Calculation Parameters - Quick Tab

Select the Quick tab of the Single Proportion: Power Calculation Parameters dialog box to access options to enter baseline parameters for power calculations for the Z and Chi-square tests on a single proportion.

Fixed Parameters
Use the fields in the Fixed Parameters box to establish the fixed, or baseline, parameters for subsequent power calculations and graphs. Parameters that are not varied explicitly as the independent (X-axis) variables in a graphical analysis will be set equal to these values.
Pi
In the Pi field, enter the actual population proportion for the population sampled from.
Pi0
In the Pi0 field, enter the null hypothesized proportion used in the Z-statistic (or equivalent Chi-square statistic).
N
In the N field, enter the sample size (N) for the analysis.
Alpha
In the Alpha field, enter the type I error rate used in determining the critical value for the Z-statistic.
Type of Hypothesis
The choice of option buttons in the Type of Hypothesis box determines the type of null hypothesis tested.
2-tailed (Pi = Pi0)
Select the 2-tailed (Pi = Pi0) option button to test null and alternative hypotheses of the form

H0: π = π0 H1: p ¹ p0

1-tailed (Pi <= Pi0)
Select the 1-tailed (Pi <= Pi0) option button to test null and alternative hypotheses of the form

H0: π ≤ π0 H1: p > p0

1-tailed (Pi >= Pi0)
Select the 1-tailed (Pi >= Pi0) option button to test null and alternative hypotheses of the form

H0: π ³ π0 H1: p < p0
