Variance Estimation and Precision Startup Panel

Ribbon bar. Select the Statistics tab. In the Advanced/Multivariate group, click Variance to display the Variance Estimation and Precision Startup Panel.

Classic menus. On the Statistics menu, select Variance Estimation and Precision to display the Variance Estimation and Precision Startup Panel.

The Startup Panel contains one tab: Quick. Use the options on this tab to specify the variables for the analysis.

Variables
Click the Variables button to display a standard variable selection dialog box, in which the variables for the analysis can be specified. From the first list, select the dependent variable(s) for the analysis. Note that subsets of the selected dependent variables can later be specified for analysis on the Variance Estimation and Precision Results dialog box, so you can select a larger set of dependent variables here. From the second list, select all grouping variables (factors) for fixed and random effects in the analysis. (Note that variables can be specified as fixed or random on the Define Custom Design dialog box, accessible by clicking the Customize design button in the Define/Review Model dialog box.) From the third list, select any covariates to be included in the analysis.
Factor codes
Click the Factor codes button to display the Select codes for indep. vars (factors) dialog box, which is used to select the group codes for the factors (grouping variables) selected for inclusion in the analysis. The currently selected codes for each factor included in the analysis will be displayed in the corresponding edit fields. These codes can be edited to change the specification of groups to be included in the analysis. Note that groups with consecutive codes can be specified by entering a dash between the beginning and ending codes to be selected.
Level of interactions
Once you have specified factors (grouping variables) for the analysis, you can enter a number between 1 and the number of factors in the Level of interactions field. This number will be the maximum degree of interactions used in the default design. For example, if you have four crossed factors (F1, F2, F3, and F4) and you enter a 3 in the Level of interaction field, then the default design will include the main effects, all two-way interactions, and all three-way interactions: F1 + F2 + F3 + F4 + F1*F2 + F1*F3 + F1*F4 + F2*F3 + F2*F4 + F3*F4 + F1*F2*F3 + F1*F2*F4 + F1*F3*F4 + F2*F3*F4.
OK
Click the OK button to display the Define/Review Model dialog box (or a standard variable selection dialog box if you have not already specified variables).
Cancel
Click the Cancel button to close the Startup Panel without performing an analysis.
Options
See Options Menu for descriptions of the commands on this menu.
Open Data
Click the Open Data button to display the Select Spreadsheet dialog box, which is used to choose the spreadsheet on which to perform the analysis. The Select Spreadsheet dialog contains a list of the spreadsheets that are currently active.
Select Cases
Click the Select Cases button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Selection Conditions dialog box, which is used to create conditions for which cases will be included (or excluded) in the current analysis. More information is available in the case selection conditions overview, syntax summary, and dialog description.
W
Click the W (Weight) button to display the Analysis/Graph Case Weights dialog box, which is used to adjust the contribution of individual cases to the outcome of the current analysis by "weighting" those cases in proportion to the values of a selected variable.
