Options - Documents/Graphs: Settings

In the Options dialog box, select the Settings tab (under Graphs) to access options to set defaults for the general appearance of the graph (example, fitted functions, axis proportions, document styles).
Option Description
2D graphs axis proportion Use the options under 2D graphs axis proportion to set the default proportions of the axes in any 2D graph in order to adjust the frame of reference for the graph (axes) to its shape (that is, in order to expose or explore a particular aspect of the data). From the drop-down list, select Standard, Equal, Same Scale Units, or Custom.
Standard Scales the x- and y-axes independently of each other. This option generates standard rectangular proportions.
Equal Scales the x- and y-axes to the same (1:1) length (that is, the proportions of the x and y sides are equal and form a regular square)
Same scale units Generates axis proportions based on the relative scale values on the x- and y-axes. If the x-axis values range from 0 to 3 and the y-axis values range from 0 to 1, the x-axis is three times the length of the y-axis.
Custom defined Sets the axes to any proportion you want. The X and Y boxes to the right determine the relative length of the axes. By changing the respective values, you can flatten or stretch the 2D box in any direction.
3D graphs axis You can use the options under this to set the default proportions of the axes in any 3D graph in order to adjust the frame of reference for the graph (axes) to its shape (that is, in order to expose or explore a particular aspect of the data). From the drop-down list, select Equal, Scale Units, or Custom.
Equal Scales the x-, y-, and z-axes to the same (1:1:1) length (that is, the proportions of the X, Y, and Z sides are equal and form a regular cube).
Scale units Generates axis proportions based on the relative scale values on the x-, y-, and z-axes. If the x and y-axis values range from 0 to 3 and the z-axis values range from 0 to 1, the x- and y-axes are three times the length of the z-axis.
Custom defined Sets the axes to any proportion you want. The X, Y, and Z boxes to the right determine the relative length of the axes. By changing the respective values, you can flatten or stretch the 3D box in any direction.
Fitted function When you fit a function to the data in a Statistica Graph, several options are available to customize the fit. You can set global defaults for the polynomial fit, fit line resolution, and the logarithm base with the options under Fitted function.
Polynomial order You can use this drop-down list to set a default polynomial fit of either a second (Quadratic), third (Cubic), fourth (Quartic), or fifth (Quintic) order polynomial.
Fit line resolution This option is used to control the resolution of the fitted function in the graph. Once a fitted function has been determined, the fit is approximated with segments on the x-axis. The Normal fit line is composed of 200 segments, and the number of segments increases in exponential fashion as you select Medium, High, Very High, or Perfect. Note that this option is only beneficial for fits with high curvature (that is, a straight line fit is not improved by this option, but a high-level polynomial fit is). Selecting a higher number of points results in a smoother appearance of the fitted function in the graph; however, selecting a higher number of points also slightly slows down the graphing procedure.
Logarithm base You can use this drop-down list to set the default logarithm base to either the natural log (Euler) or the base 10 (10) logarithmic function.
Titles You can use the options under this to toggle the display of default titles and footnotes as well as to specify custom default titles and footnotes.
Display default title All Statistica Graphs have a default title that is shown at the top of the graph; select the Display default title check box to show the standard default title for each graph.
Display Version 7 style titles By default this check box is deselected, and graph titles are displayed as follows:

Line 1. <Graph Type> of <Variables> <Selection Conditions>

Line 2. <Workbook name> <Spreadsheet name> <Spreadsheet size>

Line 3. <Fit Equation>

When this check box is selected, Statistica Version 7 graph title styles are displayed as follows:

Line 1. <Graph Type> (<Spreadsheet name> <Spreadsheet size>)

Line 2. <Fit Equation>

Display second title with spreadsheet name You can select this check box to display the data file name on the second line of the title. Note that this option is not available for Version 7 style titles.
Display spreadsheet size in the second title You can select this check box to display the file size next to the named data file on the second title line. If the check box for Display second title with spreadsheet name is not selected, this check box is unavailable for selection.
Custom In addition to the standard default title, you can include your own custom title. To do this, enter the title in the box provided, and select either Show on top, Show on left, or Show on right in the adjacent drop-down list. When a graph is created, the custom title is shown as well as the standard default title. Note that if you prefer to show only the custom title, clear the Display default title check box. If you clear the Display default title check box and do not enter a custom title, created graphs does not have titles (other than axis titles).
Custom footnote Graphs do not have standard default footnotes; however, you can create and include a custom footnote. Enter the text for the footnote in the box provided, and select the adjacent Display footnote check box. By default, this text is displayed as a footnote to all graphs. If you clear the Display footnote check box, created graphs do not have footnotes.
Data Update Use these options with newly created graphs.
Initial update mode When the Automatic option button is selected, graphs are automatically updated when the data change. When the Manual option button is selected, updates only take place when you right-click on the graph and select Update Now. When the Locked option button is selected, the graph is not updated when the data change.
Update spreadsheet case states Select this check box to specify that changes of the case states (including the case labels, case excluded, case hidden, marker color) made in newly created graphs (created from the Graphs tab or menu) is automatically updated back to the spreadsheet, so that the spreadsheet upon which the current graph is based has the same case states as in the graph.
When graph data/case names/states change Changes may be overwritten when Automatic data update is specified and the spreadsheet data changes. Select from one of the commands described below to handle this issue.
Display warning dialog Select this command to display a warning dialog when changes are made. You have the option to switch to Manual update.
Automatically switch to manual update When the Initial update mode is set to Automatic, and this command is selected, and then changes are made to the graph data or case names or states, the program switches to manual update.
Allow data changes without any warnings Select this command to be able to make changes to graph data, and case names and states without displaying a warning.
More data update options Displays the More Data Update Options dialog box, which contains options concerning graph/data updates in a workbook.
Document size Use the Width and Height boxes to specify the width and height (in either inches or centimeters) of the graph window (or graph in a workbook).
Graph margins Use these boxes to specify the margins (in either inches or centimeters) of the graph. Note that the sum of horizontal or vertical margins cannot be larger than the width and height specified.
Units Specifies whether graph margins and document sizes are measured in inches (select the Inches option button) or centimeters (select the Centimeters option button).
Scaling of fonts/markers Specifies how fonts and point markers are scaled, relative to the other components of the graph. You can increase (enter a value greater than 100%) or decrease (enter a value less than 100%) the default sizes of fonts and point markers, to fit your preferences or hardware (example, printers, monitors).
Style Use these options to change the graph size or margin style.
Graph document style Select from a variety of styles for document sizes and margins. Note that when you select a style from this list, the appropriate boxes (example, Width, Height, Left, Top, Right, Bottom) are modified to fit the chosen style. To save the current set of defaults as a new style, Click the button.
Restore system default styles Restore the default graphics style and document style so that all subsequent graphs appear as they did when you first installed Statistica. These options are useful when you have extensively modified your default styles, and instead of restoring the individual style components one-by-one, you want to return all of them to their default configurations. Note that (references to) styles in Statistica are not stored along with the graphs. So by restoring all system defaults, previously created (existing) graphs are not changed; likewise, you can always save the specific modifications made to any graph as the new default style, and those modifications can then be applied to subsequently created graphs.
Graph document defaults Restores all components of the document style to the system defaults.
Graphics defaults Restores all components of the graphics style to the system defaults.
Get only visual attributes from style Select this check box to change color and marker styles; other plot attributes are not affected.
Get manual scale from style Select this check box to ensure that an applied style does not affect the current graph's manual axis settings.
Miscellaneous
Plot labels custom separator Select this check box to define a custom string that is used as a separator for plot labels. The default is a semi-colon (";"). This option can be useful when displaying counts and percentages on a histogram.
Case states/names for multiple plots Use this option to control how multiple plots within one graph keeps their case state information. Select Common to specify that one set of case state information (including the case labels, case excluded, case hidden, marker color, etc.) is kept for all plots. Select Separate to specify that a separate copy of the case state information is kept for each plot. Selecting Common decreases the amount of space needed to store the plot but does not allow you to specify case state changes for one plot that do not affect the other. For instance, you could not specify a unique case label that applies to one plot and not the others. Note that if brushing points on any graph plot and the graph is updating the brushing information back to the spreadsheet (as is the default), then all related points in all plots are updated, regardless of the selection here (either Common or Separate), due to the feedback from the case state selections from the spreadsheet.
