PLS Analysis Syntax Editor

Select General linear models in the Type of analysis list and Analysis syntax editor in the Specification method list on the Partial Least Squares Models Startup Panel - Quick tab. Then, click the OK button in the Partial Least Squares Models Startup Panel to display the PLS Analysis Syntax Editor, which contains two tabs: Keywords and Specifications. The Keywords tab and the Specifications tab contain buttons to insert key words and specifications in the Analysis syntax edit field at the location of the cursor. The available keywords and specifications can also be typed directly into the Analysis syntax edit field. Note that this dialog will also be displayed if you click the Syntax editor button in the PLS Quick Specs dialog box or the PLS Analysis Wizard Extended Options dialog boxes.

Element Name Description
Analysis syntax Enter command syntax into the Analysis syntax edit field to completely specify the design, as well as various parameters that are used in the computations.
OK (Run) Click the OK (Run) button to begin the computations, and display the PLS Results dialog box.
< Back Click the < Back button to move back to the PLS Quick Specs dialog box or the PLS Analysis Wizard Extended Options dialog box (depending on the manner in which the PLS Analysis Syntax Editor was displayed). Note when you click the < Back button in the PLS Analysis Syntax Editor after introducing additional customizations, those customizations created in the PLS Analysis Syntax Editor will not be translated "back" to the Quick specs dialog box or the Analysis Wizard dialog boxes.
Cancel Click the Cancel button to return to the Partial Least Squares Models Startup Panel, disregarding any changes that you have made on this dialog
Options Click the Options button to display the Options menu.
Cut, Copy, Paste Use the standard Cut, Copy, and Paste editing operations in the Analysis syntax edit field; these operations can be accessed by clicking the respective buttons, or via the standard keyboard shortcuts. For details, refer to the description of the Edit menu.
Open Click the Open button to display the standard Open Syntax dialog box, which is used to open previously saved text (program syntax) files.
Save As Click the Save As button to display the standard Save Syntax dialog box, which is used to save the current Analysis syntax to a text file. Those text files can be edited by practically all text editing and word processing programs.
Note: PLS and GLM syntax conventions. Overviews and examples are available for the PLS syntax. See PLS Syntax Overview and PLS Syntax Examples for further details. The PLS syntax conventions are essentially identical to the GLM syntax conventions (see General Linear/Nonlinear Models (GLM)), with only a few additions and omissions. Note that the Generalized Linear Model (GLZ), General Regression Models (GRM), General Discriminant Analysis, and ANOVA modules also use similar syntax, with sets of additional keywords (options) that are specific to those particular applications.
Note: using Quick specs dialog to write the syntax. In practically all cases, the most efficient way to write PLS syntax is to use the PLS Quick Specs dialog box. Specifically, from the Partial Least Squares Models Startup Panel - Quick tab, select the desired design in the Type of analysis list, and Quick specs dialog as the Specification method; then click OK in the Startup Panel to display the respective PLS Quick Specs dialog box. Select your design via the PLS Quick Specs dialog box, and then click the Syntax Editor button in the PLS Quick Specs dialog box. All current specifications (e.g., variable selections, design specifications) selected in the PLS Quick Specs dialog box will automatically be transferred (translated) to the syntax editor, and can be further modified or saved.
Note: when selecting a Type of analysis, it is not necessary that your design matches exactly the chosen type of design. For example, if you want to exclude certain effects from a factorial ANOVA design, choose Factorial ANOVA from the PLS Startup Panel - Quick tab, specify the full factorial design, and then in the PLS Quick Specs dialog box, click the Syntax editor button. The syntax for the full factorial design (as specified in the PLS Quick Specs dialog box) will be written out to the syntax editor, and you can then modify the DESIGN statement to customize the design (e.g., to drop effects).
