GLM - Methods for Specifying Designs
Statistica GLM (as well as Generalized Linear/Nonlinear Models (GLZ), General Regression Models (GRM), General Partial Least Squares Models (PLS), General Discriminant Analysis (GDA), and ANOVA) provide three alternate methods for specifying designs: Via Analysis Wizards, Quick Specs dialog boxes, and Analysis Syntax. Note that even if you choose one of the first two user-interface methods, you can always switch to the GLM Analysis Syntax Editor where the GLM syntax describing your current design (as specified via Analysis Wizards or Quick Specs dialogs) is displayed for further editing; the GLM Analysis Syntax Editor also provides options for saving the design syntax in a text file for repeated use.
Analysis Wizards. The simplest method for specifying designs is via Analysis Wizards. If you select this Specification method from the GLM dialog box - Quick tab, Statistica guides you through a series of dialog boxes for specifying the desired type of design. Via this user-interface, you can specify all univariate and multivariate between-groups and within-subject (repeated measures) designs, nested designs, as well as designs involving random effects.

- This user interface presents a Quick Specs dialog box, tailored to the specific design selected in the Type of analysis list on the GLM dialog box - Quick tab. For example, if you chose a Multiple regression design from the GLM dialog box - Quick tab, the Quick Specs dialog box provides options for selecting the dependent variable, and a list of continuous predictor variables (independent variables or covariates); if you selected a Factorial ANOVA from the GLM dialog box - Quick tab, the Quick Specs dialog box provides options for selecting the dependent variable, and a list of categorical predictor variables (factors, or grouping variables), and so on. If you have some experience with using other Statistica modules, this user interface will appear most familiar to you.

- This user interface allows you to type in directly the command syntax for specifying any type of experimental or regression design, using either GLM syntax conventions or SAS syntax conventions (note that not all Statistica GLM features and options are available when you use the SAS syntax conventions) in the GLM Analysis Syntax Editor.
